The MO-Call Guide to Roaming

What is roaming?

If you take you mobile phone with you when you travel to a foreign country, your ability to make calls and receive calls on a foreign network is called ‘roaming.’ For roaming to work for you when you travel abroad there needs to be an agreement between two networks; your home country network and the visited country network. Part of this roaming “handshake” is a fee that the visited network and home network charge each other when you make or receive a call. Typically, that charge is passed on to you. So how do you get around these excessive roaming charges? We’ll show you how:

MO-Call presents four easy ways to avoid roaming charges.

The MO-Call team has developed a range of services to combat mobile phone roaming fees. All the services are free to register for and they could save you a bundle of money.

MO-Call World – an SMS callback service

When you travel abroad with your mobile, switch to the MO-Call World service. MO-Call World is a call back service. It’s like having your own personal operator who can connect a call for you. You decide where you want to call from and where you want to call to. MO-Call World is really easy to use. Firstly, make sure you set-up MO-Call to call you back on the number you want. If you are traveling overseas, you can have your callbacks delivered to a local fixed or local mobile number to avoid the incoming roaming call charge on your mobile. Secondly, just dial the number of the person you want to talk to. MO-Call will send a text message to the Morodo network telling us how you want your call set-up. We’ll call you back. When you answer, your call starts ringing. Simple. Most smartphones will automatically switch to MO-Call World when your mobile picks up a signal from a foreign network.

DON’T FORGET: If you’re traveling, direct your callbacks to local numbers. Any local number will do, mobile or landline, just make sure it’s a local phone. Local phones usually won’t get charged for incoming calls, your roaming mobile will. You could use a local friend’s phone, a hotel phone, even a public payphone. Some MO-Call users will even buy a cheap second phone and a SIM card for a country they visit. The incoming call-back is free – the only fee you pay is the cost of a text plus the really low MO-Call World rate.

Web MO-Call – a web-activated callback service

Web MO-Call is a web-based version of MO-Call World that you can use from your online MO-Call account. Simply log into your account at www.mo-call.com and you can set-up callbacks between any two numbers, anywhere in the world. Using Web MO-Call you can save money on your international calls wherever you have access to the Internet and a phone line. DON’T FORGET: If you’re traveling, direct your callbacks to local numbers. Any local number will do, mobile or landline, just make sure it’s a local phone. Local phones usually won’t get charged for incoming calls, your roaming mobile will.

MO-Call Home

If you are a frequent traveler to one or more of the 39 MO-Call Home, we recommend buying a local SIM card and using MO-Call Home. SIM cards are relatively inexpensive these days and as the only calls the local operator will charge you for are national calls to the Morodo network, you should be able to save a bundle on your ringing home. There’s no limit on the number of MO-Call accounts that you can open, as long as you register a different mobile number for each account. On top of that, MO-Call give free credit to each account you register from a Home country ready to use as soon as they are activated.

Now when you travel to a different country, pop in your local SIM. Switch on MO-Call Home and start saving! When you make an international call in your country, just make sure MO-Call is switched on and then you just pay the price of a local call plus the really low MO-Call home rate.

Make Free VoIP Calls using MO-Call PC

If you travel with a laptop or have access to a PC while abroad and you have a good internet connection (can be wired or through Wi-Fi), you could be avoiding any kind of charges and making your calls absolutely free. First download the MO-Call PC application. After you install MO-Call PC, get people you frequently chat to also sign up and download MO-Call PC.
